Palm City Wildlife
Palm City Wildlife
We use as little fertilizer and pesticides as possible. As a result, we have a healthy population of wildlife - insects, reptiles, mamals, and birds.
We have many kinds of frogs and toads, both native and non-native - unfortunately including the invasive and poisonous buffo toad. We love our garter snake who lives near the front door. Cardinals are here for the winter and the swallow tail kites come through twice a year (summer and fall). Bald Eagles occasionally fly over our property while out hunting; it's a great sight to see them sweeping by at the tops of the trees. Fox squirrels are here year round and change color as they mature. Pine warblers show up each April and help with the barn clean up. We see many butterflies and moths - below are the Palmedes Swallowtail buttterfly and a large Banded Sphinx Moth. We also have a family of red fox in the neighborhood; fitting since the Palm Beach Hunt's kennel is at the end of our street.
